In the MUN Directors’ committee, the Contra War in Nicaragua will be at the core of the debate. Our fellow directors will need to go back to 1981, when the conflict arose. In the Central American nation of Nicaragua, several rebellious episodes in opposition to the government of Sandinista broke out and engendered the « Contra War ». While the Contra forces used atrocious methods in order to eliminate the Sandinistas, they were supported by the US government. Debates will not only focus on Nicaragua’s politics but also on the involvement of Iran and Panama for instance, and the stakes of such a conflict on the international scale.
